Kathe LeSage - One Woman’s Montana. It is a beautiful, rich and tacktile book full of imagery of this beautiful state... not the traditional & expected brightly colored mountain and river-scapes, but a more in-tuned, deeper look at Montana's wilderness and inhabitants.
My aunt Kathe is who I can officially thank for teaching me the art and technical skills of photography. When I was a child, growing up in Helena, Montana, my mom's sister, my aunt Kathe offered children's photography classes. Our families were tightly knit, so of course I was to partake. At the age of 7 I was in the darkroom, developing and printing my own black and white photos. It brings back fond memories of the vinegary smelling fix and the calming noise of the trickle of the running water in the humid, warm basement darkroom at my aunt's house. I was a natural right from the very beginning. I remember Kathe explaining to us (her class) how the camera, film and magic of the chemicals and thinking... that makes sense. So from the age of 7-12 I spent summers running around with my Pentax K1000 with a 50mm lens taking photos and in the dark room creating new works of art. I owe it all to her.
Thank you Aunt Kathe! Your are an amazingly talented artist.

Here is a write up of the book:
Kathe LeSage - One Woman’s Montana
"As a lifelong Montanan, Kathe LeSage is keenly aware that Montana isblessed with beauty. But she sees Montana’s beauty a little differently than most of us, and she records what she sees with a unique photographic style. Working in color and in black and white, Kathe brings out deep textures, unusual light , and graceful patterns. Her subjects are varied. Her focus is broad. What Kathe sees and shows to the rest of us is astonishing. She invites inquiry and study, and inspires a deeper connection to what we are viewing. Her images as that we take a closer look, to see beyond the obvious. Her images foster a desire to take this expanded way of seeing into our own Montana."
Chris Cauble, Riverbed Publishing
